"Dear Lord, give me truths which are veiled by the doctrines and articles of faith, which are masked by pious words of sermons and books. Let my eyes penetrate the veil, and tear off the mask, that I can see Your truth face to face."    --Saint John of the Cross
Crown of Thorns / Crown of Triumph Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit

Trinity Sunday (May 18, 2008)
Trinity Sunday is a time to celebrate and reflect upon the eternal Godhead, the Holy Trinity: The Father, The Son, and The Holy Spirit.
The Holy Trinity
Corpus Christi (May 22, 2008)
The feast of Corpus Christi (Body of Christ) celebrates the institution of the Lord's Supper (also known as the Eucharist or Communion) by our Lord Jesus Christ at the last supper. It is called the "medicine of immortality" and is the greatest sacrament of the Christian church.
The Bread and Body of our Lord

"I pray to God—my life a prayer—
and wait for what he'll say and do."

Trinity Sunday Scripture Readings:
2 Cor 13:14; John 1:18; John 15:26; Matthew 28:19
"The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Ghost, be with you all. Amen."

Corpus Christi Scripture Readings:

1 Cor 11:23-26; Matthew 26:26-29; Mark 14:22-26; John 6:51-58; Luke 22:19-20
"And when He had given thanks, He brake it, and said, Take, eat: this is My body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of Me. After the same manner also He took the cup, when He had supped, saying, this cup is the new testament in My blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink it, in remembrance of Me."

"Let your love dictate how you deal with me;
teach me from your textbook on life.
I'm your servant—help me understand what that means,
the inner meaning of your instructions."

Prayers for Trinity Sunday:

Holy God,
Holy and Mighty,
Holy and Immortal,
Have Mercy upon us

~~Trisagion

Father,
You sent your Word to bring us truth
and your Spirit to make us holy.
Through them we come to know the mystery of your life.
Help us to worship you, one God in three persons,
You reveal yourself in the depths of our being,
by proclaiming and living our faith in you.
Grant this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
one God for ever and ever. Amen

~~Liturgy of the Hours

"God's a safe-house for the battered,
a sanctuary during bad times.
The moment you arrive, you relax;
you're never sorry you knocked."

I bind unto myself today
The strong name of the Trinity,
By invocation of the same,
The Three in One and One in Three.

I bind this day to me for ever,
By power of faith, Christ's Incarnation;
His baptism in the Jordan River;
His death on the cross for my salvation;
His bursting from the spicèd tomb;
His riding up the heavenly way;
His coming at the day of doom;
I bind unto myself today.

I bind unto myself the power
Of the great love of the Cherubim;
The sweet 'Well done' in judgment hour;
The service of the Seraphim,
Confessors' faith, Apostles' word,
The Patriarchs' prayers, the Prophets' scrolls,
All good deeds done unto the Lord,
And purity of virgin souls.

I bind unto myself today
The virtues of the starlit heaven,
The glorious sun's life-giving ray,
The whiteness of the moon at even,
The flashing of the lightning free,
The whirling wind's tempestuous shocks,
The stable earth, the deep salt sea,
Around the old eternal rocks.

I bind unto myself today
The power of God to hold and lead,
His eye to watch, His might to stay,
His ear to hearken to my need.
The wisdom of my God to teach,
His hand to guide, his shield to ward,
The word of God to give me speech,
His heavenly host to be my guard.

Against the demon snares of sin,
The vice that gives temptation force,
The natural lusts that war within,
The hostile men that mar my course;
Or few or many, far or nigh,
In every place and in all hours
Against their fierce hostility,
I bind to me these holy powers.

Against all Satan's spells and wiles,
Against false words of heresy,
Against the knowledge that defiles,
Against the heart's idolatry,
Against the wizard's evil craft,
Against the death-wound and the burning
The choking wave and the poisoned shaft,
Protect me, Christ, till thy returning.

Christ be with me, Christ within me,
Christ behind me, Christ before me,
Christ beside me, Christ to win me,
Christ to comfort and restore me,
Christ beneath me, Christ above me,
Christ in quiet, Christ in danger,
Christ in hearts of all that love me,
Christ in mouth of friend and stranger.

I bind unto myself the name,
The strong name of the Trinity;
By invocation of the same.
The Three in One, and One in Three,
Of whom all nature hath creation,
Eternal Father, Spirit, Word:
Praise to the Lord of my salvation,
salvation is of Christ the Lord.

Almighty and everlasting God,
you have given to us you servants grace,
by the confession of a true faith,
to acknowledge the glory of the eternal Trinity,
and in the power of your divine Majesty
to worship the Unity:
Keep us steadfast in this faith and worship,
and bring us at last
to see you in your one and eternal glory, O Father;
who with the Son and the Holy Spirit live and reign,
one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

~~Book of Common Prayer

God promises to love me all day, sing songs all through the night!
My life is God's prayer. Sometimes I ask God, my rock-solid God,
"Why did you let me down? I counted on you, God.
Why did you walk out on me?"

Prayers for the feast of Corpus Christi:

We adore you most holy Lord Jesus Christ,
here, and in all your churches throughout the world;
and we bless you,
because by your holy cross,
you have redeemed the world.

Soul of Christ, sanctify me
Body of Christ, save me
Blood of Christ, inebriate me
Water from Christ' s side, wash me
Passion of Christ, strengthen me
O good Jesus, hear me
Within Thy wounds hide me
Suffer me not to be separated from Thee
From the malicious enemy defend me
In the hour of my death call me
And bid me come unto Thee
That I may praise Thee with Thy saints
and with Thy angels
Forever and ever. Amen.

~~Anima Christi

"They hit me when I was down, but God stuck by me.
He stood me up on a wide-open field;
I stood there saved—surprised to be loved!
God made my life complete when I placed all the pieces before him."

Jesus, My God and my all
my soul longs for You.
My heart yearns
to receive you in Holy Communion.
Come, Bread of Angels,
to nourish my soul and to rejoice my heart.
Come most lovable Friend of my soul,
to enflame me with such love
that I may never again
be separated from You.

God our Father
whose Son our Lord Jesus Christ
in a wonderful sacrament
has left us a memorial of his passion:
Grant us so to venerate
the sacred mysteries of his Body and Blood
that we may ever perceive within ourselves
the fruit of his redemption:
who lives and reigns with you
and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.

~~Book of Divine Worship

Strengthen for service, Lord,
the hands that have taken holy things;
may the ears which have heard your word
be deaf to clamour and dispute;
may the tongues which have sung your praise
be free from deceit;
may the eyes which have seen the tokens of your love
shine with the light of hope;
and may the bodies which have been fed with your body
be refreshed with the fullness of your life;
glory to you for ever. Amen

~~Prayer after Communion, Malabar Liturgy

"Doing something for you, bringing something to you—that's not what you're after.
Being religious, acting pious—
that's not what you're asking for. You've opened my ears so I can listen. So I answered, 'I'm coming. I read in your letter what you wrote about me, And I'm coming to the party  you're throwing for me.' That's when God's Word entered my life, became part of my very being."
